Furniture Donation Pickup in Los Angeles: Who Picks Up for Free?

Where to donate furniture in Los Angeles and who offers free donation pickup. What charities accept, what they reject, and what to do with furniture they won’t take.

  • Same-day pickup
  • Upfront price, never hourly
  • Donate & recycle first

Donating furniture keeps it out of the landfill and helps a neighbor. In Los Angeles, several organizations offer free furniture donation pickup, but each has rules. Here’s how to get your furniture picked up, and what to do if they say no.

Organizations that may pick up furniture donations

Programs change and vary by neighborhood, so always call or check online before you schedule.

  • Habitat for Humanity ReStores. ReStores across Greater LA and the South Bay accept furniture, appliances, cabinets and building materials, and many offer free pickup for larger donations. Proceeds fund affordable housing.
  • The Salvation Army. Accepts furniture and household goods and offers scheduled pickup in many areas.
  • Furniture banks and local nonprofits. Organizations that furnish homes for families leaving shelters or transitional housing often need beds, dressers, tables and sofas.
  • Veterans’ charities. Several veterans’ organizations run donation pickup for household goods.
  • Local thrift and consignment stores. Smaller shops sometimes pick up quality pieces, especially mid-century and solid-wood furniture.

What charities usually accept

  • Clean, sturdy sofas and chairs with no rips, stains or pet damage
  • Dressers, tables, desks and bookcases with all drawers and hardware
  • Working, clean appliances (rules vary)
  • Bed frames and headboards

What charities usually reject

  • Mattresses and box springs (most charities can’t resell them)
  • Sleeper sofas, worn upholstery, and anything stained, torn or smelly
  • Particleboard furniture that’s been moved or disassembled before
  • Baby cribs and car seats (safety recalls)
  • Large entertainment centers and older tube TVs

Tips to get your donation accepted

  1. Take clear photos before you call. Many charities pre-screen by photo.
  2. Book early. Free pickup slots in LA can be one to three weeks out.
  3. Make it accessible. Many donation drivers won’t carry items from upstairs or inside.
  4. Ask for a receipt for your tax records.

What if the charity won’t take it?

If your furniture is rejected, or you can’t wait weeks for a pickup, a junk removal company is the next step. Blaze sorts every load: usable furniture goes to local charities, wood and metal are recycled, and only what’s left goes to the landfill. We pick up from inside your home, often the same day.
